De Boer and Dubai-based Wicked Tents completed an impressive build process for the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai, the star-studded finale to golf’s European Tour season.
The two structure specialists, which are pursuing a joint strategy to develop business opportunities in The Gulf’s Arab states, erected a vast array of facilities at Dubai’s Jumeirah Golf Estates ahead of four days of competition beginning on November 22.
The assignment saw the firms’ structures creating an impressive backdrop to an intriguing battle that involved world number one Rory McIlroy, world number two Luke Donald and more than 50 other top players.
The big-name list of competitors also featured golfers of the calibre of Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter, Padraig Harrington, Justin Rose, Martin Kaymer and Miguel Angel Jiménez.
Northern Irishman McIlroy took the honours beating Englishman Rose by two shots in a thrilling finish.
The DP World Tour Championship marked the dazzling conclusion of ‘The Race to Dubai’, with the European Tour’s top players booking their right to compete during a gruelling 44 tournaments staged across 24 countries over more than 11 months.
De Boer and Wicked Tents, which entered a partnership agreement earlier this year, have been awarded a three-year deal to provide temporary structures to the tournament.
For the 2012 competition, personnel from the two companies erected an extensive range of facilities including a vast hospitality structure alongside the 18th hole, complete with exterior decking, plus media centre, merchandising outlets, exhibition space, bars, caddies’ tent, catering area and physio tent.
Other areas provided by De Boer and Wicked Tents included kitchens, crèche, volunteers’ facilities and covered decking. The structures, which included Multiform Arcum, Acropolis, Zendome, Pagoda, Saddle Span and Multiform High Peak products, covered a total area of about 7,000 square metres.
John Cochrane, De Boer’s Sales Director – Events, was among the team in Dubai during the four-day competition. He said: “De Boer is delighted to be part of the team delivering the infrastructure for this tournament. The co-operation agreement with Wicked Tents has worked extremely well, and we are planning to work closely together again soon in this region.”
Meanwhile Alistair McDonald, Managing Director of Wicked Tents, said: “We see the DP World Tour Championship as just the first step in our relationship with De Boer. The entire build process was completed very successfully, with great feedback from the client on the quality of the structures and the finishing.”

De Boer, which is one of the world’s leading suppliers of temporary structures, and Wicked Tents, which launched operations in Dubai in 2007, had already worked informally for several years before deciding to formalise their relationship to partner on strategic projects. The collaboration also allows both companies to access each other’s stock, creating added value and increased versatility to customers.
European Tour Operations Manager Rory Colville said recently: “We are delighted to be working with the partnership of Wicked and De Boer, on what has become a key tournament on the European Tour schedule. The finale to The Race to Dubai has become a major event on the Dubai sporting calendar.”
He added: “The European Tour and The Ryder Cup have a very strong relationship with De Boer and the confidence we gained from their involvement in the project was a key factor in awarding the contract.”
